Shall you not know it?
On of the most serious problems that believers confront
today is the political and social pressure that exists,
which attempts to separate us from God’s truth. I say
this because I am sure that all of us here have
experienced the social and political pressure that seeks
to replace God’s truth with principles and concepts that
have been created by men, which are directly influenced
by the devil. This is why on a daily basis we see that
moral depravation and political corruption gain more
ground, while the people of God remains silent because
they either do not know how to properly defend their
beliefs, or because they are afraid of being labeled as
a religious zealot.
Let me warn you that the theme that we will be exploring
today is very controversial. I also warn you that what
we will discuss today will not be with the purpose of
insulting or degrading anyone. The purpose of today’s
theme is to call the sinner to repentance, and to teach
the believers how they can defend their beliefs at all
times. What is our theme for today? Today we will be
speaking about homosexuality and lesbianism. I do not
know how many of you have been paying attention to the
news, but only a few days ago President Obama declared
that his administration would extend certain rights,
that up until now have been reserved for marriages, to
unions of the same sex that are employed by the Federal
Government[1]. This attitude adopted by the
president is in complete opposition of the Federal
“Defense of Marriage Act”, which was approved and passed
on September 21, 1996, that describes that a legal
marriage is the exclusive union between a man and a
woman[2]. Now we should ask ourselves: why
are we seeing these things happening? But most
important of all, what can we do to defend our position
regarding all of this? Let us now turn to the Word of
God to find our answers.
Isaiah 43:19
- Behold, I will do a new thing, Now it shall spring
forth; Shall you not know it? I will even make a road in
the wilderness And rivers in the desert.
Perhaps many of you might be thinking that this
particular verse has nothing to do with the theme that
we are exploring today, and if you thought that, you are
completely correct. However, although this initial
verse does not directly address the theme that we are
studying today, the historical events behind it will
clearly demonstrate why we are seeing these things
happen, but most important of all, in them we will find
how to defend our position regarding this controversial
issue. I say this because this verse that we are using
today is part of the consolation words that God offered
His people, as due to disobedience and rebellion of men,
they would soon experiment God’s judgment.
History reveals that during this point in time, the
people that God had blessed had fallen in a state of
moral depravation, political corruption, and social
injustice. This is something that is clearly defined in
the prophet’s warning as we find in
Isaiah 1:2-4 when we
read: “Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth! For
the LORD has spoken: “I have nourished and brought up
children, And they have rebelled against Me; 3The
ox knows its owner And the donkey its master’s crib; But
Israel does not know, My people do not consider.” 4Alas,
sinful nation, A people laden with iniquity, A brood of
evildoers, Children who are corrupters! They have
forsaken the LORD, They have provoked to anger The Holy
One of Israel, They have turned away backward..”
The sad part of it all is that although they received
this stern warning, the people of that time did not
change their ways and continued down the path that led
them to lose the sovereignty and be led as captive
slaves to serve the Babylonian king. This is something
that is very clear for all to see in
Isaiah 39:6-7 when we
read: “Behold, the days are coming when all that is
in your house, and what your fathers have accumulated
until this day, shall be carried to Babylon; nothing
shall be left,’ says the LORD. 7‘And they
shall take away some of your sons who will descend from
you, whom you will beget; and they shall be eunuchs in
the palace of the king of Babylon.” How does any of
this apply to the theme that we are exploring today?
The truth of it all is that there is not too much
difference between the rebellious people of that time
and the world today. I say this because the moral
depravation and political corruption that exists in our
society appears to grow with each passing day.
It seems that today people are more preoccupied with
adopting and accepting everything that is contrary to
God, instead of seeking and surrendering to His truth.
The danger in all of this is that there many believers
that may be led to accept that which they well know
displeases God, all because they fear the retribution
that they may experiment.
For example, nowadays there is a great controversy as
far as extending the legal rights of a marriage to
unions of the same sex. With each passing day
politicians seek to please all aspects of society, and
with this end in mind they promote and initiate
trainings and classes in the work place, that promote
ideas and concepts that go directly against God’s will.
Among one of the things that the teachers of these
classes promote is that the entire world has to
recognize and respect the legal rights of the unions of
same sex, something that as we all know is hated by God,
and that said unions have to be accepted and seen as
something completely normal. However, the truth of it
all is that there is nothing normal in this type of
union. The Word of God is extremely clear regarding all
of this as we find in Leviticus
18:22 when we read: “You shall not lie with a
male as with a woman. It is an abomination.” But
regardless of this, this small minority of people wants
to force us to accept and approve a behavior that is
totally condemned.
Same sex unions are an abomination to God and are
severely condemned. This is not just because I say;
look carefully at what we find in
Leviticus 20:13 when we
read: “If a man lies with a male as he lies with a
woman, both of them have committed an abomination. They
shall surely be put to death. Their blood shall be upon
them.” Therefore, the answer to our initial question
which was: why are we seeing these things happening? Is
that we are seeing these and similar things happen
because of the rebelliousness and moral corruption that
exists in the world. In
Galatians 6:8 we find that we are told: “For
he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap
corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the
Spirit reap everlasting life.” And unfortunately
modern society has not sown to the Spirit, but rather
has sown and continues to sow to the flesh. Modern
society has sown and continues to sow moral depravation
and has turned its back to God.
But what about those homosexuals and lesbians that
profess to be Christians? Here is where the initial
verse that we used today comes into play which tells us:
“Behold, I will do a new thing, Now it shall spring
forth; Shall you not know it?.. In this portion of
the verse we find what we can do to defend our position
at all times. How so? Let us ask ourselves another
question; what new thing has God done for men that has
brought to light things that were unknown at one
point? The answer to our question is found in
Proverbs 2:6 when we
read: “For the LORD gives wisdom; From His mouth come
knowledge and understanding.” Why have I called
your attention to the knowledge and wisdom that God has
given men? The reason for this is because there are a
large number of homosexuals and lesbians that profess to
be Christians, and they attempt to justify their
behavior by saying God made them that way; this is
perhaps one of the biggest lies that Satan has
orchestrated. Let us now use our wisdom and
understanding to perform a brief review of basic
biology, to determine if what I am saying makes sense.
When God created man and woman, He created them perfect
in every sense. This is something that is extremely
clear for all to see in Genesis
1:31 when we read: “Then God saw everything
that He had made, and indeed it was very good. So the
evening and the morning were the sixth day.” God
did not create man and woman without thinking or without
planning, and evidence of this is the complicated
sequencing that exists in the RNA and DNA. Within all
of this, human wisdom and understanding has discovered
that the chromosomes “X” and “Y” determine the sex of
the embryo. Chromosome “X” determines the female
gender, and “Y” determines the male. These are
scientific facts and there are no doubts or debates
regarding them. Unfortunately, there are many that use
this scientific evidence in their attempt to justify the
way they behave. There are many homosexuals that
attempt to use this scientific principle to say: God
made me this way, and evidence of this is that I have
the “X” chromosome, and this chromosome is the one that
dictates who I am. Can this be true? The answer to the
question is absolutely NOT! How can I be so sure that
the answer is NO?
Having established the irrefutable scientific
principles, let us now continue using our knowledge and
wisdom, and let us examine this whole issue from a
scientific point of view. If we were to say that men
behaves in a homosexual manner because God created men
with two different chromosomes, and that the female
chromosome is the one that controls homosexual men,
then, what excuse or reasoning can lesbians offer to
justify their behavior, as women are only born with a
set of the “X” chromosome? It is very clear that there
is no excuse or justification; the female gender has no
chromosome that might influence the behavior of the
woman, and if the excuse or reasoning behind the
chromosome cannot be used to sustain or prove the
inverted behavior of the woman, then it cannot be used
to justify or support the inverted behavior of a man.
What scientific conclusion can we derive from all of
this? Based on scientific evidence, the only rational
conclusion is that there is no genetic or biological
reason that can be used to justify or support the
homosexual or lesbian behavior. Having examined this
from a scientific point of view; let us now examine it
from a theological one.
Let us ask ourselves: does God want to condemn
humanity? I think that the answer to this question is
very clear in John 3:16
when we read: “For God so loved the world that He
gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him
should not perish but have everlasting life.” If
God wanted to condemn humanity, He would have never
endured the pain of sacrificing His son as payment for
our sins. The problem is that since the beginning of
time, human beings have elected to separate themselves
from God’s will. This is why in
Hebrews 3:12 we find that we are told: “Beware,
brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of
unbelief in departing from the living God.” If we
say that we believe in God, and if we say that we are
followers of Christ, then we cannot doubt what we find
in His Word, because if we do this, we will be easily
dragged away by the evil current that runs through this
world.
In Matthew 24:35 we find
that the Lord tells us: “Heaven and earth will pass
away, but My words will by no means pass away.”
This small verse lets us clearly know that God will not
change His Word for anything or anyone; this small verse
lets us know that God will not compromise His Word to
please anyone; but most important of all, this small
verse lets us know that God will never contradict
Himself. And if God does not contradict Himself, then
this means that homosexuality and lesbianism are an
abomination. Therefore, it is completely absurd to say
that a homosexual or a lesbian is a Christian, as they
are contradictory terms. But most absurd of all is to
allow the wicked current of evil that runs through this
world, to convince us that we have to accept and see
these depraved and immoral unions as something natural.
The Word tells us: “…Behold, I will do a new thing,
Now it shall spring forth; Shall you not know it?”
The knowledge and wisdom in science reveals to us that
there are no biological or genetic reasons that man can
use to justify, explain, or support the inverted
behavior of men and women, and this is why this
abominated and perverse behavior is recognized as a
sexual orientation or life style, and not a way of being
or something natural. Look carefully as to how this is
something that is well defined in
Romans 1:26-27 when we
read: “For this reason God gave them up to vile
passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use
for what is against nature. 27Likewise also
the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in
their lust for one another, men with men committing what
is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of
their error which was due.” The homosexual or
lesbian was not born with a biological or genetic defect
that produces them to behave in that fashion, the
homosexual or lesbian chooses their behavior. What
causes a man or a woman to act in an inverted way? Like
I have stated, there is no scientific evidence that can
sustain or justify the sexual orientation of a person;
however, there is something biblical that does explain
why it happens.
In Ephesians 6:12 we
read: “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood,
but against principalities, against powers, against the
rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual
hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.” Men
and women that act inverted have in fact fallen dead in
the spiritual battle field. Homosexuals and lesbians
have been blinded to God’s truth and have ceded their
sovereignty to the devil, who is the king of this
world. Look at how this is something that is well
reflected in 2 Corinthians 4:4
when we read: “…whose minds the god of this age has
blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the
gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God,
should shine on them.”
Now, I want to make a brief pause to make something
extremely clear. As Christians we cannot condemn and
attack homosexuals and lesbians; we cannot declare war
on them and sentence them to death. As Christians we
have not been called to wound or despise them, let us
remember that our calling is not to offend, but rather
to offer. Our calling is to offer a new path to all of
those that find themselves lost and trapped in the lies
of the devil. The Word tells us: “…I will even make
a road in the wilderness And rivers in the desert.”
This group of people is completely lost in the dessert
of this life; they are bound to a life of sin and the
only thing that can free them is God’s Word. God wants
to open a new road for all of those that find themselves
trapped in sin, but remember that to build a road, it is
necessary to have laborers. In
John 8:32 we find that we are told: “And you
shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
And all of us that know the truth must minister at all
times. However, we must minister without compromising
our faith. Let us never forget that no matter how good
our intentions may be, when we attempt to explain or
justify the actions of this group of people, we are in
fact denying God’s Word.
In conclusion;
can there be homosexuals and lesbians that arrive at the
feet of the Lord? The answer is YES. The fact is that
there are numerous men and women that have surrendered
their life to Christ; however, the ones that have made a
genuine commitment to Him, the ones that have truly
deposited their faith in God, they have stopped being a
homosexual or lesbian and all has been buried in the
past. Let us never stop defending our position before
this continuous attack from the enemy, but rather let us
defend it using the wisdom and understanding that God
has given us. Let us never accept or approve that which
displeases God, but rather let us seek that new road
that He offers us so that we may guide others to His
presence.
